The End?

The last four days have been very interesting and in the end we came up with some impressive results and policy recommendations for the EU. In this regard, the workshop was very successful, as, in the end, the main aim of the project was to derive ideas for the future EU Aid Volunteers. The whole VinCaB project has yielded some valuable lessons for the Consortium as well as for all team members. We made new experiences, gained new insights, and further developed our professional knowledge. Most importantly, on the individual level, we made new friends.

When we met more than half a year ago, we did not expect this evaluation event to become such an emotional event. Over the course of our trainings and deployments, we have deepened our relationships in a way that goes beyond mere professional acquaintance. It has been a pleasure to work with such a diverse variety of people who are all connected by a shared desire to help other people.

It is hard to say goodbye now. Thankfully, we can always meet again and stay in touch. What’s more, this is just the beginning. We are now part of the mechanism started with the Lisbon Treaty that will ultimately lead to the establishment of the EU Aid Volunteers. Chances are, we will not only be able to meet again, but also to work with each other again in the future.

This, my friends, is not the end. It’s only the beginning!
